The Lewis Cabin at Taylor Wilderness Research Station, with the Cliff Creek drainage to the north - c.1928 and 2019

Big Creek and the Cliff Creek drainage are in view in these repeat photographs, as well as the Lewis Cabin. The Lewis Cabin has had some building and foundation restoration work done throughout the years, with the addition of the section behind the main cabin as well. In the early 20th century, Dave Lewis was living on his homestead here. While the fire pit in the contemporary photograph cannot be seen in the historical photo, it is historically significant. Around this fire pit, the conception of the Idaho Primitive Area was spawned, an action of land preservation that would eventually turn the area into the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness. For this to have happened on the Dave Lewis homestead holds significance for those who are connected with the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness through Taylor Wilderness Research Station.
