Contribute to the largest library in Idaho!
Last year the University of Idaho Library recorded more than 278,000 visits — a 10% increase over the year before. Those visitors came for a lot of different reasons. Some came for the million-plus books and the thousands of journals and databases. Some came to run a laser cutter in the MILL, record a podcast in the Studio, or get help with a map in the Data Hub. Some came to the second floor, where research help, writing support, and tutoring now sit side by side.
Since 1892 this library has grown from a single classroom in the Administration Building into the largest in the state — and, as an official regional depository, the place where almost two million U.S. government documents are kept available to any Idahoan who needs them.
Bringing Idaho to the World
Not satisfied with only bringing the world to Idaho, we also bring Idaho to the world. Our Special Collections and Archives hold historical photographs, archival maps, rare books, the papers that document this state’s landscapes and politics, and the International Jazz Collections, the premier jazz archive of the Pacific Northwest — much of it found nowhere else in the world.
Our Center for Digital Inquiry and Learning puts that material online through Digital Collections and student-built projects like the Taylor Wilderness Research Station Archive and Keeping Watch. It also builds the open-source software that gets it there — tools now used by libraries, museums, and classrooms around the world.
