and Narrative Vignettes
Narrative Vignettes on the
Interplay of Human Diversity and
Shared Humanity:
Come explore how various narratives might address the spokes and
hub, and the interplay between them, and, in turn, relate to other narratives,
and how they are accessed and understood from a
humanities perspective. For example, how is the interplay of the diverse/finite and the shared/infinite defined and expressed
within and between Christian, Indigenous and Science mega-narratives? I have
listed below a sampling of vignettes from various narratives, expressed through texts, images,
music and performance. As an
entry point, try exploring the interplay of the particular/unique and the
universal/ubiquitous as found in Picasso's
Guitar and Weeping Woman
or in Gast's American Progress. What are their meanings and implications for you?
These particular vignettes are derived from the academic
background and interests of Rodney Frey, and do not reflect the additional and
varied narratives
that will be presented and explored by the Humanities Exploration team.
