- John Groh (standing by horses) operated his first grocery store out of a tent. The man at left is not identified. Beside him are three large squash; elsewhere are crates of vegetables and melons. In the background at left is the frame of a new building, probably the Gropp store. Dimly seen above the horse's rump is a two-story building once the J.A. Anderson store, which stood at Pine and 1st.
