About the Collection
This collection consists of photos, publications, and maps showing forestry policies and issues for over a century. The items draw from eight different archival collections held in Special Collections and Archives plus documents and images created by governmental and private groups. The archival collections include papers and images collected or created by employees of lumber companies, professors, the U.S. Forest Service, the University of Idaho College of Forestry, the Idaho Department of Lands, and the Society of American Foresters. Other contributors include research and extension departments from the University of Idaho, and articles from various forestry-related journals and publications.
This collection is a representative sample of all the forestry-related resources found in Special Collections and Archives and the University of Idaho Library. Topics include insects and diseases faced by Pacific Northwest forests including examples of damage and how to mitigate it. There are also inventories and maps of available timber and photos of the flora and fauna of forested lands. Forest policy and procedures for over a century are also covered.
