Your Lewiston letter reached me and I send in this a copy of the "List" to give
to Mr Allen on his way to Kamiah to help him there. He can go over it with the K. session.
Dr Gunn (or Pres.) gave Mr D the ‘list’ I sent to Presbytery to help Mr
for Mr D to use in organizing the 2d chuch so that all improper persons may be
excluded from it. He (Dr Gunn) wrote me Mr D still has that List. Perhaps, but Kate not
one word to a living person white or red about this list. Remember save only
to Mr Allen. Tell him that Eugenmelican belongs to Roberts church now and that Talkupen
(No 61) has been restored to Roberts church. He never left Robert, and there are others on
the List who never left Robert - besides those I knew when I wrote the List had never
given their names for it. The Kamiah session (Roberts) can tell him.
Tell him to be sure and put up at Roberts. Robert is the only one who has a spare bed, and he will need to be with Roberts session where the 1st church members are dismissed to form the 2nd church. Put him on his guard about traps. Archie & Co will do their best to trap him in some way into working out their schemes. And they have nearly a month for ‘Councils’ before he comes. Put him on his guard.
Parson came about 9 oclock last night after medicine for his boy – was here until abt 10 and started home early this morning. He is the only one I have seen since Presbytery. He seems to think they had a good time at Presbytery – says even Whitman treated them kindly. He says that Archie had it announced at Lapwai. The Sab of Presbytery that the Board of Church Erection was to give him $300.00 for his new Church. Is that true? Has the Board promised him $300.00? Did Pres. recommend the Board to grant it? What did they tell the Board were ‘Miss McB’s objections’ to it? Why was Dr Gunn not at Pres? Was he sick? Mr D is in another Pres. Now. I wrote you after getting Roberts notes. Parsons says the Agent only wanted to see them for ‘tuka’ and was kind to them. Get Mr Allen to take Eddie Conner to K as Interpreter. He is the best one. His studies in the Confession of Faith &c help him in interpreting church words. Which are not in the vernacular Nez Perce. Archie still leads Peter, William &c. Parsons says. Do what you can to have Peter walk straight when he is at Kamiah with Mr. Allan. Mr Allen will need to be pretty sharp & clear sighted when he is among the Clique at Kamiah or they will cause him to say things which they can twist to their purposes after he has gone. You know their shapatsekin so innocently & child like in manner ‘lying in wait to decieve’ He will need much wisdom from God and the constant guidance of the Spirit. Pray for him and do all you can to warn and enlighten him.
