Kate – dear Sister
I have been hindered until I have only a few minutes in which to scribble you another note & I suppose you have my last; telling of Robert arrest & trial at Kamiah.

Last night a Kamian came up to warn us that Robert was to be arrested again, and taken to Lapwai on the order (timart) of the Lapwai Judge as soon as he (Robert) sets his foot in Kamiah again (I do not know if they will dare to come here for him). The Kamiah Judge came back, the Indians said, without an order from the Agent, as yet but, as I understood him the K part of the Clique have the order (timart) from their Confederate Judge at Lapwai now. They will not wait until Spring!

The Doctor says that Robert is, and will be for a long time in great danger of pneumonia which with his lungs means death (the Dr says) He would never reach (or return from) Lapwai in the hand of the Clique alive – which they know and which is the purpose (by hardships, or treachery on the road, they keeping out of the clutches of the law). That it is his life that is aimed at is plainly seen now by all. They know their time is short (Miss Fletcher will soon be back &c) with Robert, the leader of the K advance dead they will not care for their loss of office for a time.

I think Mr. Robbins should know at once. Tell Mr McConnville too. The Kamian who told me about it is not one of my pupils, but is connected by blood and tradition with the ExChief Clique, and knows very much of their secret work. I have known him long and trust him. He tells me that "The Six" (Jimmy Lawyer – Kippapelikan – Yutsinmelikan, Wilson - Nicodemas &c) are holding their secret councils by night, and by day now. God knows what they will bring forth. The rest of the Kamians outside that little band [illegible] still stand firm he says. You know the one who brought the warning but I will not write his name now for fear you might let it slip and bring vengeance on him (tho he does not fear being himself of the Chiefs. Nor does Robert fear. You know how utterly fearless he is. But his life is too precious to his people & the Cause, and it is very clearly, his life that is sought now. I have only seen him (Robert) for a few minutes the day he came. The Doctor says that the crisis is past for the present but he is still closely confined to the house and, of course I cannot go to see him. My pupils are all better now. Tell Roberts Agent at once & Mr McConnville. Write to me at once. Take care of your health Pray for us all

Lovingly

Sister Sue
