Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival Student Competition Winners for College Day, Feb. 23

MOSCOW, IDAHO - More than 180 college vocal and instrumental groups, combos and soloists from throughout the West and as far away as Chestnut Hill, Mass., performed at the second day of the 2006 Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho. Washington State University was selected as the Outstanding Guest College Band at the festival and Bellevue Community College at Bellevue, Wash., received Outstanding College Multi-mic Choir honors. Student musicians from Washington State University were named Outstanding College Instrumental Combo and Yakima Valley Community College at Yakima, Wash., topped the Outstanding Community College Combo category. Joey Walbaum, Olympic College Outstanding Instrumental Composition Provo, Utah Regan Brough, Brigham Young University The 11 outstanding college instrumental soloists performed together as a group during the evening concert in the Kibbie-ASUI Activity Center. The four outstanding college vocalists also were featured on the festival's main stage during the evening concert.
