Description:
The Mountain Home Division of the Southwestern Idaho Water Development Project was chosen as a model to study methodology for evaluating regional multipurpose benefits resulting from water and related land development. It is hoped that the methodology will be applicable in other areas. Minimum flows in the river, municipal and industrial uses of water, and recreational side effects were evaluated to determine the impact of a large irrigation project on a region such as Southwest Idaho. The effects on power generation at Anderson Ranch Dam was also considered as a secondary effect to revised dam operation. A discussion of irrigation efficiencies was included to point out the benefits that could be derived from using less water per unit of land.
