- Impetus for the Passage and Survival Workshop was provided by the recent ''threatened'' listing of Snake River spring and summer chinook salmon stocks under the provisions of the Endangered Species Act. The listing initiated a region-wide debate over remedial measures for restoration of threatened stocks. The intent of the Workshop organizers was to provide a forum for discussion of two fundamental questions: ''how adequate is the available technical information on factors affecting the passage and survival of juvenile chinook salmon migrating from the Snake River basin?'' and ''what information is needed but not now available?'' These questions were addressed at length during the two and on-half day workshop, which was attended by many of the researchers most familiar with existing information on salmonid migration, passage and survival in the Snake River basin. A selective (and necessarily subjective) summary of some of the Workshop is provided below. [...]
