Title:: Kannyu Hajiki Ki (crackle glaze earthenware vessel)

Description:: These mending fragments are from a cream-colored, earthenware cup that could either be a large sake cup or small teacup. The porous paste is covered in a colorless glaze with an intentional crackle glaze known as kannyu. This technique produces the hairline cracks characteristic of many Satsuma-style glazes (Creuger et. al 2006:37, 289). Black botanical elements are hand painted under this glaze on the vessel's exterior.
