McKellar Elected Senior Member of National Academy of Inventors: College of Engineering Research Professor and Industrial Technology Program Director Michael McKellar was one of 54 academic inventors named senior member by the National Academy of Inventors this summer. NAI senior members are active faculty, scientists and administrators from member institutions who have demonstrated innovation-producing technologies that have brought, or aspire to bring, real impact on the welfare of society. Idaho Falls Professor Collaborates on Patent for Large Geographical Stability: Dakota Roberson, assistant professor in the College of Engineering at University of Idaho, Idaho Falls, was recognized as co-inventor on a recent patent issued to the University of Wyoming. The patent gives both universities a new real-time reconfiguration method for use in large power systems, improving the ability to compensate against large electric power flow changes brought on by intermittent disturbances or even cyberattacks. Christensen Receives Grant for Nuclear Plant Control Room Simulator: Richard Christensen, director of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Idaho, Idaho Falls College of Engineering, in collaboration with professors Robert Borrelli, Michael Haney and Michael McKellar, was recently awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to support the installation of a NuScale reactor plant simulator. The simulator, which will be housed at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) at U of I Idaho Falls, is a virtual nuclear power plant control room that provides CAES with the ability to observe nuclear plant behavior. |
