Abstract
The Birds of Trinidad is a collection of six essays that explores the themes of loss and longing as well as those of renewal and deep attachment. These themes are apparent in the portrayals of familial and professional relationships, as well as in the context of a profound and personal connection to the natural world, and to birds in particular. Although the essays explore responses to death, divorce, and other forms of devastation, ultimately their overall tone is one of awe, gratitude, and celebration rather than lament.
