Answer with Hunger is a collection of poems exploring religion, womanhood, family, and the landscape of the West. The collection sets out by laying a foundation in the American West, in a Christian tradition, and within specific gender expectations. The unnamed speaker wrestles with motherhood, marriage, cultural expectations on her as a woman, her rejection of religion, and eventually grief due to the loss of her father. A reflection on the lasting effects of religion and gender disparity through memory laid upon the present, Answer with Hunger also offers a sense of seeking and worship outside of the boundaries of theology.
