- Doc Cheatham holds his trumpet in his right hand and a copper pixie trumpet straight mute in his left hand. The mute was given to him in 1924 by Joseph "King" Oliver (1885-1938), who was being followed around by young Cheatham and had a valet gift the mute to make Cheatham go away (I Guess I'll Get the Papers and Go Home pg 15). Cheatham wears a brown dress shirt, black thick-framed glasses, a brown-strap watch, and sports a grey mustache. He stands in front of bushes of little pink flowers outside a red-brick building.
