View of the landing strip at Taylor Wilderness Research Station, with Big Creek on the northern side - 1954 and 2019

Taylor Wilderness Research Station is the most remote research station in the lower 48 contiguous United States. Because of its remoteness, the airstrip serves as a vital access point for transporting anything and everything the research station needs to operate and function: people, equipment, propane, building materials, food, research tools, mail, and other supplies. Taylor Wilderness Research Station would not be able to operate at its current capacity, nor would it be able to serve so many students, if it weren’t for access by plane.
