Cabin Creek - 1971 and 2019

The CAT tractor, or bulldozer, in the historical photograph has a funny place in folks’ memories of wilderness reclamation. A large piece of equipment, it couldn’t be burned or flown out, and it would be too damaging to walk it out of the drainage at any time of year. So, after having sat unused for some years, US Forest Service employees got it up and running again, used it to dig a large hole… and then the CAT buried itself. There is most likely another bulldozer buried along the Big Creek drainage, along with other tools and equipment.
