The upper airstrip at Cabin Creek - 1931 and 2019

A defining characteristic of Cabin Creek which hasn’t changed much is aviation. The historical photograph shows the first plane to fly out of Cabin Creek in 1931, to evacuate Noel Routson who had been injured by falling rock. He was carried on a litter twelve miles from the site of injury to Cabin Creek, and then flown out. This original airstrip is on a rise just north of the airstrip that is heavily used now.
