The records of the College of Agriculture were transferred to the University of Idaho Library between 1985 and 1991. Marilyn Sandmeyer processed them in December 2006 and January 2007.

History

Information provided by the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences explains that the College of Agriculture Experiment Station was established in 1892 as the research function of the College …and has the responsibility to conduct applied and basic investigations to problem solving and new knowledge for agricultural industries, rural communities, and family living. The counterpoint to this program is the Idaho Cooperative Extension that has district offices in Moscow, Coeur d’Alene, Boise, Twin Falls, and Idaho Falls. Extension specialists are located in Parma, Idaho Falls, Caldwell, Soda Springs, Kimberly, Sandpoint, and Aberdeen. Early stations once existed in Jerome, Tetonia, Gooding, and Grangeville. The Experiment Stations have been the research arm of the College of Agriculture for over one hundred years. Land use development, seed certification, wheat production, farm management, and the animal industry are topics addressed in this manuscript group.

Records from the Agricultural Engineering series include senior student reports on field trips undertaken to provide on-site training and instruction. The reports also include photographs of students and faculty members.

Other archive groups dealing with various aspects of the College of Agriculture include: UG 14, 30, 32, 33, and UG 48.

Scope And Content

The records of College of Agriculture span the years 1892 to 1981, with the bulk of the material covering the years 1950 to 1979.

Included in the records is correspondence, minutes of meetings, conference material, reports, research, and photographs. Most of the material relates to the Experiment Stations with one series in the group devoted to Agricultural Engineering.

Arrangement and Description

Since the manuscript collection is comprised of numerous accessions transferred over several years, it was necessary to create an order based on the different types of records held. A list of series was compiled with groups of folders falling into categories based on original folder headings. These folder headings were retained throughout the collection.
