American Library Association selects UI Digital Initiatives as Digital Library of the Week

PostcardsA month after the University of Idaho Library’s Digital Initiatives launched the Northwest Historical Postcards Collection, it was named Digital Library of the Week by American Libraries Direct, the electronic newsletter of the American Library Association’s flagship magazine. Each week the publication highlights an outstanding digital library based on a recent addition to its collections.

The 800-plus digitized postcards in the Northwest Historical Postcards Collection, which come from the UI Library’s Special Collections, feature unique images of people and places in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, British Columbia and Alberta during the late nineteenth to mid-twentieth century. The UI Library’s Digital Initiatives department’s digitization database and digital archiving services preserve, create and make accessible collections from the library, the university and the state of Idaho.

American Libraries Direct is a weekly supplement to the American Libraries magazine that provides summaries and links to news, announcements, and other information of interest to more than 65,000 members of the American Library Association.
