Zine workshop coming to library on May 1

 

The library will sponsor a hands-on workshop on zines, Wednesday, May 1, from 1:30 – 3:30 pm on the main floor of the library. Participants will learn about the zine movement and have the opportunity to express themselves by creating a zine of their own design in a collaborative environment.

Zines are self-published mini-magazines printed in small numbers, typically made by hand and duplicated with a copy machine. Common topics include fan-fiction, art and design and personal journals or memoirs.

The workshop will offer insight into the publishing world and the facts about self-publishing, copyright and the reliability of information. Participants will look at their creations in the context of other zines and publications, the library collection and society in general.
